This page explains exactly what happens when one member sends a gift to another, what it costs, and how long each step takes. Both the sender and the recipient see these terms before any payment is taken.
A gift on Minxa is a gift payment from one member to another, processed by Stripe. Minxa never holds members' funds. Minxa does not buy, hold, ship, or deliver merchandise, and a gift is not an order for any product. A favorited item sets the amount of the gift and gives it its occasion — nothing more.
Minxa charges a 10% platform fee, paid by the recipient out of the gift.
For example, on a $100 gift the sender is charged $100 and $90.00 reaches the recipient.
A member does not need a payout account set up before someone can send them a gift. When a gift is sent to someone who has not set one up yet:
A released authorization can take a few business days to clear from a card statement. That timing is set by the card issuer, not by Minxa.
Gift money is sent to the recipient's own Stripe account once the sender's card is charged, and Stripe pays it out to their bank on Stripe's schedule. Gifts may be held for a period before payout, so that a payment problem — a reversed charge, a disputed card — can be resolved before the money has left.
Before a gift is claimed nothing has been charged — the gift exists only as an authorization on the sender's card. If it is not claimed within 7 days, that authorization is released automatically and the sender pays nothing. If a sender made a mistake, they should contact Support before the gift is claimed and we will cancel it.
Once a gift has been claimed it cannot be recalled. Gifts are voluntary and are paid to another member, so a claimed gift is not refundable.
Recipients are responsible for any taxes on gifts they receive through Minxa. Stripe may issue tax forms to members who receive payouts, according to Stripe's own thresholds and rules. Minxa does not give tax advice.
If a sender's card issuer reverses or disputes a payment after a gift has been paid out, Minxa may reverse the corresponding payout from the recipient's account. This can leave that account with a negative balance, or be netted against future gifts, until it is resolved.
You must be 18 or older to send or receive a gift. Gifting is available only between members who follow one another, on items the recipient has favorited, and only where the recipient has turned gifting on. Recipients can set their own minimum and maximum gift amounts, and Minxa applies a site-wide minimum. Gifting requires a signed-in account. See How Minxa works for the full list of conditions.
